They are another strip mall hidden gem. The family is super friendly and very helpful with explaining the menu. We usually come with a group of between 4 to 6 people and I would say the entire restaurant might only accommodate around 35 people. I think everyone that comes here knows about the tea leaf salad. It's AMAZING. It's a must on every visit. I think the same guess for the pork and pumpkin stew. It's pretty difficult for me to try more things on the menu because of how delicious these two items are. I think I could eat that salad every single day.
Great service, unique food, nice setting and good price. To my knowledge, this is the only Burmese restaurant in Irvine. The wait staff was fast and nice, and the food came pretty quickly too. I'd recommend the tea salad, the curry and the fried chickpea tofu. Catfish soup was meh. In general the food is on the oilier side though, so be ready if you decide to eat here :)
Um, I can't believe I've never had Burmese food until my late 30's. I've been missing out on this for how many years??? Once I took my first bite into the tea salad, I was sold. The strong flavors, the crunchy textures of the cabbage and peanuts really impressed me. I started to feel sad that I never ate it before, but grateful I got to finally try it. 10/10 delicious as hell. The service here was also great! Attentive, friendly, and patient. 10/10 would eat here again.
Irrawaddy Taste of Burma serves delicious food with a combination of Indian, Thai, and Chinese flavors. The servers are all polite and the restaurant interior is clean. My favorite dish was the tea leaf salad. It was so fresh and flavorful; I would honestly order a whole salad for myself as a meal. The salad with the coconut rice was amazing. The paratha was also really delicious and came out hot and crispy. It's a bit oily, so it definitely needs to be eaten with a salad for some lighter fare. The Burmese fried rice was a unique take on a classic dish. I preferred it as more of a side rice dish than a main entree. Also loved the chicken kebat and the golden tofu salad. Overall, really flavorful food and I can't wait to come back for more!
This restaurant is such a hidden gem, tucked away in a strip mall center--you'd never guess what awaits inside! The moment I walked in, I was so pleasantly surprised. Everything was super clean, and the decor was thoughtfully designed with cool, modern touches. Even the restroom was impressively clean and well-maintained, which really stood out to me. I had never tried Burmese food before, but it's clear there's a beautiful blend of Indian and Thai influences in their dishes, creating an incredible explosion of flavors that will leave your taste buds delighted. We tried several dishes, and each one was a standout. The chicken salad was unlike any I've ever had--absolutely delicious and a refreshing change of pace. The chicken noodles, pumpkin pork stew, and paratha with coconut curry were all phenomenal, but the real star was the Tea Leaf Salad. It might sound unusual, but trust me, it's an absolute must-try. So unique, and soooo good! This place has instantly become a favorite. It's only 20 minutes away, so I'll definitely be back soon--probably 1000% sooner than I should!
Irrawaddy is an excellent Burmese restaurant. I've only been here a couple of times, but each dish is amazing. Here are my recommendations: - Tea Leaf Salad: this is a must get. My friends introduced me to tea leaf salad before I went here, and this is one of the best rendition I have as well as the tastiest dish here. - Masala Chicken: The meat just falls off the bone, so satisfying! Very saucy dish and it pairs so well with the delicious coconut rice - Mandalay coconut noodles: soo good - Burmese Milk Tea (hot): This is pretty reminiscent of Hong Kong milk tea and also very satisfying especially on a cold day The staff here is also wonderful and fast. Highly recommended.
I have had this place bookmarked for so long and I'm so glad I finally got to try it. I love Burmese food, specifically the coconut noodle soup. Food was great! We came in during dinner time on a Saturday night and it was busy. We ordered the tea leaf salad, coconut noodle soup, and southern style noodle salad. 10/10 would recommend these dishes to anyone. To drink, we had the Burmese sweet tea (milk tea) and Myanmar beer. The restaurant itself was clean and nicely decorated. Looked like a nicer mom and pop shop. Plenty of tables and servers worked quickly and very attentive. Located in a plaza with lots of parking. It's really hard to find a Burmese cuisine around here and it was very delicious.
Dined in for lunch on 11/08/24 on a Friday. It was empty around 1:00 pm. We had a party of 3. We ordered two appetizers, tea leaf salad and samusa, two main entrees, mandalay coconut noodle and roasted pepper chicken, and dessert, par lu dar. Tea leaf salad was amazing as always. Perfect blend of sauce with nuts to add a crunch. You have to order this! The samusa was okay, kind of salty in my opinion. The potato inside didn't have much of a taste and the sauce was just okay. I wouldn't order this again. Mandalay coconut noodle with chicken had great flavors together. I enjoyed this dish and the coconut wasn't overpowering. Also there was a yellow crunchy topping that gave it a good texture. Roasted pepper chicken was okay. The flavors were mild and I didn't taste any spice to it. Par lu dar was delicious! You have to get this. The ice cream compliments the jelly, tapioca and pudding. I could eat this all day! Overall, the food was good, but my big complaint is I wished the portions were a little bigger. It is on a pricier side for what you get.
It is so rare to see Burmese restaurants so this was a must try spot! We absolutely loved everything here! We were on a time crunch so didn't have time to eat at the restaurant and to go was still super delicious! My favorites were the tea leaf salad and toh thote. Items that we got that were also good were paratha, moh hinga, tea leaf lamb. They also have the tea leaf salad kit for you to buy to make the salad at home! I would definitely be back and recommend this place!
Burmese food is so underrated. Happy to have found this spot in a non-descript strip mall, one of the only Burmese restaurants in OC. Flavors were a bit more modest than what we have here in the Bay Area but the food was still delicious. Ask the friendly staff for recommendations if you don't know what to order but do not miss out on the tea leaf salad -- a savory crisp, grain filled salad for texture eaters like me. Skip the Chinese items, they're not their specialty and not nearly as good as the Burmese items. Great spot. Plenty of parking. Hard to find flavors. A new go to for our family!
